How do you calculate the correct storage size?

Above all, not by yourself. Ask an installer or energy consultant. As a rule: For a well insulated house with 150 square meter, 5 to 6 square meter of storage space required. The correspondonds to about 4 tons of pellets, the annual demand for an average one-family house.

Heating with Pellets

Pellets are as far away from a campfire as Dubai is from it's independence from oil. Heating with pellets is not very adventurous. One orders fuel timely, occasionally making sure everything is fine and turn on the heater when one is cold. Only to the environment you are hero.

The ultimate Solution for those who want to heat sparingly with a clear Conscience

In the next couple of years millions of old heating systems will be replaced in Germany. Pellets can be used both in stoves as well as in central heating units. Pellet heating systems are easy to maintain and provide comfortable heat.

Whether new construction or refurbishing, the replacement of a heating system to a pellet boiler is usally uncomplicated. A switch from oil to pellets makes sense, since existing storage tank rooms can be kept for continued use.

The pellets are mostly stored in a dry basement space which does not need to be much bigger than a normal oil tank. Pellets are usally delivered once a year by tanker truck and are blown in to the storage room. If no basement space is available, there are other storage options such as underground tanks or flexible.

store with pellets, to be filled once a year

The Maintenance?

Occasional dust vacuuming of the bunker and fertilizing the garden.

Wood burning naturally creates ash. This is not any differentwith pellet heating systems. But, it is less. However, one should only buy pellets designated as either DINplus or ENplus A1. These leave only 0,5 % ash per ton and prevent so-called sintering, i.e. the formation of slag in the combustion chamber which leads to disturbances of the heater, due to it's high ash melting point. What also slows the heating it too much wear and dust. For example, this blocks conveyor belts. One shoult only resort to pellets that meet the standards of DINplus or ENplus A1. With these abrasion is low. But in any case: Before each new pellet supply it is essential to thoroughly sweep and clean the storage space - little work for a maximum of clean heat.

How an where does one store Pellets?

Depending on the base area and whether the house has a basement, there are the following options:

- in a sealed cellar converted to a pellet bunker

- in a separate silo in the basement or in the vicinity of the house

- in an underground reservoir, for example, in the garden of the base area
